About our school

Clarksburg Classical Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Preschool through 7th grade in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The school operates out of 1636 W Pike St, in the heart of Harrison County, and runs on a classical education model built around critical thinking, character formation, and a genuine love of learning that outlasts the school day.
Principal Melissa Nelson leads a building where every student is known by name. That's not a line in a brochure. It's the operating philosophy. Class sizes stay small enough that teachers can adjust instruction to what each child actually needs, not what the curriculum assumes.
The academic program pairs rigorous, content-rich classical instruction with Character Counts!, a structured curriculum that teaches values like respect, responsibility, and fairness as daily practice. Students don't just hear about good character during an assembly once a semester. They work on it every day, in every classroom, with adults who model it.
Preschool students must turn 4 by July 1. Kindergarten students must turn 5 by July 1. The school earned the ACCELY Silver Award for academic growth.
Students wear school shirts with crests, khaki bottoms, and closed-toe shoes. The dress code is simple, consistent, and puts every student on equal footing from the moment they walk in.
Beyond academics, the school runs more than a dozen clubs: Camping Club, Clay Club, Pet and Animal Club, Game Club, Movie Club, Dance and Karaoke Club, Gardening Club, Coloring Club, KickBall Club, Puzzle and LEGO Build Club, Digital Creators Club, Kindness Club, and Community Outreach. After-school enrichment runs four days a week until 5:00 p.m. at no cost.
The school calendar is full of events that bring families in: Fall Festival, Trunk or Treat, Earth Day Celebration, Veterans Day Celebration, Grandparents Day, Read Across America Week, holiday parties, pool outings at Splash Zone over the summer, and Kindergarten Promotion.
Community partners don't just write checks. The VFW Auxiliary donates food bags, reads with students, and hosts craft activities. The Stonewood CEOS Club provides donated goods and services. Toni's Ice Cream donates free ice cream tokens. The Educational Partnership Council, made up of parent volunteers, supports school events, classroom activities, and school-wide decorating throughout the year.
Every enrolled student receives free breakfast and lunch. After-school enrichment is free until 5:00 p.m. four days a week. Transportation is not provided by the school; families arrange their own.
